The Fort Collins Music Teachers Association (FCMTA) is the local chapter affiliate of the Colorado State Music Teachers Association (CSMTA) and Music Teachers National Assocation (MTNA). MTNA boasts a membership of 24,000 collegiate and private teachers, with affiliates in all 50 states, and over 500 local associations.
WHAT WE DO:
Our goal is to improve the standards of music education by encouraging continuous professional development for our teacher-members. In addition, we seek to promote musical culture thruout our community: amongst ourselves, fellow music professionals and the public at large.
HOW WE DO IT:
1. FCMTA Placement Service links students with qualified teachers on a variety of instruments. Please call our placement coordinator, Carrie Hansen at 377-0674. Click on Current Membership to see a complete membership roster and some of their biographies.
2. Provides professional enrichment and interaction for teachers through monthly programs/meetings, study groups, mentorship, a library and performance opportunities. For details, please go to Teachers' Activities.
3. Provides diverse performance experiences for students that contribute exposure, comaraderie, and motivation within a broader context than an individual teachers' private studio. For details, please go to Students' Activities.
4. FCSO Prize-Since 2004, we have awarded a cash prize in the Fort Collins Symphony Young Artist Competition.
5. Sponsorship of the Wendel Diebel Keyboard Olympics at Colorado State University since its inception.
6. Past activities have included awarding a scholarship to the CSU Summer Music Camp, and raising funds to buy and place pianos in local area nursing homes through the SSSP program (now inactive).
