MEETINGS: All meetings begin with a social time from 9-930 am., followed by a business meeting and conclude with the program for the month unless otherwise noted.
General Membership Meeting
April 9, 2007
The meeting was called to order by President Marks at the First Presbyterian Church. The March minutes were approved as distributed, with one point of clarification made by Veronica Lim: The third sentence begins with She gave and should be clarified by stating Paulette gave.
President Marks stated that for upcoming events news and chairpersons, we should refer to the minutes of the March meeting.
Susan Snyderman presented the treasurers report. We made a $1270.00 profit from Student Achievement Day.
Veronica Lim and Susan Snyderman reported on the status of Cynthia Alvarez, who is raising money to represent CSU and Fort Collins at next summers International Scholar Laureate Program in Prague, Salzburg and Vienna. Two fundraiser piano workshops remain at Veronicas studio: April 14 is the Jazz Improvisation workshop and May 5 is the New Age Improv workshop. Suggested donation is $15.00 for each workshop. To date, $640.00 has been raised at the workshops; Cynthia needs $4850.00. The FCMTA board recommends we donate $500.00 to her. Cheryl Nelson moved that we do wo, Susan Snyderman seconded the motion. Motion carried. We will be inviting Cynthia to play on the May Musicale and also the May 4 Honors Recital.
Susan Snyderman encouraged teachers and students alike to consider playing on the May 4 Honors Recital. Sign-up sheets were distributed, and must be returned to Susan by April 27.
CSMTA conference will be in Silver Creek. The phone number in Notes and News is incorrect. Call 1-800-926-4386 by May first to reserve lodging. President Marks noted that there is only one restaurant at Silver Creek, so it is best to plan on registering for all the group meals, unless you take your own food with you. Next years conference will be held in Colorado Springs. Forms for SPA are in the recent Notes and News; teachers are encouraged to enter students. If anyone is certain they will be attending, they can speak with Susan Snyderman or Veronica Lim about the room and loft they have reserved, which sleeps 5 to 6 people. The cost is $117.00 per night, to be shared by members who wish to stay there. President Marks passed around a sign-up sheet for those who wish to have their signatures in the conference booklet. A $5.00 donation is included with this, to help pay for the booklets. Veronica and Susan will prepare a display for the conference, illustrating our past years activities. Members are asked to contribute photos for this purpose. Susan reported that www.comusicteachers.net contains a for conference registration, as well as an archive of the best articles from 1988 to the present.
President Marks will be preparing a report of our years activities, to be submitted to the CSMTA. Each year, one association is presented the Association of the Year award at the state conference, based on each association report submitted. It is believed that the FCMTA never has received this award. Mary will prepare her report as completely and thoroughly as she is able, and appreciates input from members.
Vanessa Fellhauer presented the nominating committee report for next years officers: President Veronica Lim, President-Elect Debbie Orwick, Vice President Krista Warnock, Secretary Susan Perkins, and Treasurer Susan Snyderman. There were no nominations from the floor. Carol Hemken moved that we accept the slate of officers, Paulette Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Sidney Thompson reported on the Intermediate and Advanced Recitals. Only three students performed in March, and we would like to see ten students each month. There have been two fifth graders who have played, as well as a trumpet student in February, who was runner-up in the Loveland concerto competition. Members are encouraged to enter students in the April 27 recital, which will be the last recital for this school year.
Sidney also reported on the Teacher Discussion Group for spring. The topic will be nocturnes and night music. The dates are April 30 and May 7. A sign-up sheet was passed around.
President Marks distributed postcards announcing the summer music camp being hosted by Amadeus July 16 to 20. The camp is open to all students ages eight to twelve.
Veronica Lim announced a Mothers Day brunch to be held at Cipolettis Italian restaurant in Loveland. Violin and accordion strolling musicians, Bill and Victoria, will be playing from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
The program was presented by Dr. Joel Bacon of CSU playing organ works by Bach and Franck.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary G. Rudy, Secretary
